LIGHTNING RELEASES – MIAMI, Florida, – February 18th, 2014 – ViendoMovies, the 24 hour channel with no commercial breaks and original Spanish content, brings its audience live coverage from the Berlin Film Festival which opens from February 6 until February 15th. The film festival’s Competition Section will feature a total of 20 films, among them four are directed by Latin American producers. The presence of Latin talent is not lacking but it actually more and more acknowledged and appreciated in international festivals year after year. 

Diego Luna’s “Cesar Chavez” will be exhibited in the Special Section of the Berlinale. The movie follows the life and mission of Cesar Chavez, figurehead activist fighting for the rights of undocumented farmers. The film was produced by Americans and stars Michael Rock and Rosario Dawson.

Another film by a Latin American producer is “La Tercera Orilla” which is a collaboration of an Argentinean- German- Dutch production. The movie was filmed between Argentina and Uruguay in the province of Entre Rios and the storyline centers around a 16 year old boy who struggles obeying his father and wants to go his own way. The film has been sponsored by Martin Scorsese and counted on the previous support of the World Cinema Fund to endorse young film directors.

Peruvian Claudia Llosa aspires to win a Bear with “Aloft” with a Hispanic-Canadian-French production in English starring by Jennifer Connelly and Cillian Murphy. Llosa won the ultimate prize five years ago with “La Teta Asustada”. “Aloft” will be premiering during the 64th annual Berlin International Film Festival.

Lastly, to finish the parade of Latin American presence, Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz presents “Praia do Futuro” which is the story of a lifeguard Donato, starring Wagner Moura, who tries to escape his life after losing a German tourist in a failed rescue.
