New York. Rani Sidhu. Capt. Amarinder Singh’s historical disclosures on Shiromani Akali Dal President’s role in the tragic event of Operation Blue Star, has opened another Chapter of history, during 1980’s in U.S.A., Canada and U.K., when Sukhbir Badal, was studying in Long Beach California State University, Los Angeles with other NRI Students, including family friends in San Francisco, New York, Seattle, London and Vancouver, Canada.
The tussle between Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale, Shiromani Akali Dal, Sant Harchand Singh Longowal, SGPC Gurcharan Singh Tohra, Prakash Singh Badal, to control the Golden Temple and Punjab, led to the attack, where thousands of innocents were killed, including Sant Bhindrawale and his majority followers.
NRI Followers residing in USA, Canada, U.K., Germany saw this coming before June 6, 1984, where options and resolutions, were discussed by NRI’s of Punjab in open forums, but there was no professional channels to communicate their thoughts to the Golden Temple, SAD, SGPC, Prime Minister’s Office.
Indian Overseas Congress President Vikram Bajwa, is a witness to one of the major discussions held after Operation Blue star, where current President of Shiromani Akali Dal Sukhbir Badal, was present, in San Francisco, along with Tejbal Singh, Udai Kairon, Samir Thapar and Hardeep Singh, where “Prevention” of Operation Blue Star was discussed, Vikram Bajwa confirms ” Sukhbir and all others cried to see pictures of Golden Temple and he emphatically said ” if he was in India, as President SAD , he could have prevented Operation Blue Star”, these words still are fresh in all our minds. Such was the feeling of resolving the conflict, which leaders in Punjab and New Delhi, could not evolve.
Tejbal Singh , favoured USA intervention in the diologue with PMO and Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale, for a amicable solution, since USA had a grip on Pakistan President and Military. Samir Thapar was of the opinion, had Sukhbir Badal been the SAD President in 1983, Operation Blue Star had been avoided.
All Political leaders and parties associated with Punjab, need to introspect before blaming others and for trying to make political points in their favor, while the Khalistan followers, still control the major Sikh Gurudwaras in USA, Canada and U.K. Many discussions were held in the Gurudwaras, before and after Operation Bluestar, “only if walls had ears, history could be re-written”, says Giani Jaswant Singh.
