“Dummy” by Matthew Thompson is a drama based on the story of two siblings, Danny and Jack, that must come to terms with their mother’s death. When Danny tries to cope by using drugs, music and sex, Jack turns a mannequin into a surrogate parent using their mother’s old clothes. However, eventually they have to accept the ugly truth. The movie has received two nominations, one from the London Critics Circle Film Awards for “Young British Performer of the Year” and the other from the Raindance Film Festival for “UK Feature”. “Beeper” is a thriller/ crime by Jack Sholder about a doctor who must follow instructions sent via a beeper to rescue his kidnapped son. He seeks help from unlikely sources, including a drug lord and a beautiful but dangerous woman.
“The Maid” is a comedic drama, by Sebastian Silva, centered on a maid with over 23 years serving the same family, trying to hold on to her position. The highly acclaimed film has received 28 awards (including “Special Jury Award” and “Grand Jury Award” from the Sundance Film Festival, the “Audience Award” from Paris Cinema, “Best Script” and the “Inspiration Award” from Miami Film Festival and “Best Film” from the Cartagena Film Festival) and 9 nominations (including “Best Foreign Language Film” from the Golden Globes). In the “Last Goodbye”, a handful of characters, each at emotional crossroads, find their paths leading to Atlanta in this independent drama by Jacob Gentry and starring Faye Dunaway and David Carradine.
